Prof. Pilar Garrido

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 and Ph.D. in Medicine (Cum Laude) in 1993 at University Autónoma de Madrid, Prof. Garrido finished Medical Oncology training in 1990, and has since dedicated her professional life to care, teaching, and research in the field of thoracic tumors. Currently, she is head of the Medical Oncology Department at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Madrid, Spain, and has served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alcalá since 2016. She is co-director of the cancer area at the Health Research Institute Ramon y Cajal and PI of the Molecular Epidemiology and Predictive Cancer Biomarker Group. She served as an external clinical expert for several European cancer initiatives.

Prof. Garrido’s research focuses on predictive biomarkers in lung cancer and gender perspective from different angles: the potential impact of gender in patients with lung cancer and the gender gap in oncology from a professional view. She collaborates closely with national and international scientific bodies in the development of consensus documents/guidelines in the thoracic tumors field. She has long-standing experience leading academic and pharma-sponsored clinical trials, being the national/international coordinator and local PI of more than 150 studies, some of which have changed the standard of care and clinical practice in lung cancer patients and have been published in high-impact oncology journals. 

Dr. Garrido has published 327 papers in WOS, with an H-index of 33, and 13,011 citations. She serves as associate editor at the editorial board of Annals of Oncology since 2018 and routinely reviews papers for journals including Clinical Cancer Research, Lancet Oncology and others. In 2020 she received the ASEICA women research award for her contributions in the field.
