Promising Researcher Grant
Dr. Wafaa Ramadan is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Wafaa was born in United Arab Emirates in 1992, and graduated in 2014 from the University of Sharjah with a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine and Translational Research from College of Medicine in University of Sharjah in 2017, Dr. Wafaa worked as a research assistant in the Drug Design & Discovery research group in Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences. There, she was involved in several research projects related to the biological characterization of potential anticancer agents for different types of cancer. In 2021, Dr. Wafaa received her Ph.D in Molecular Medicine and Translational Research from the University of Sharjah and Lubeck University in Germany. During her Ph.D journey, she studied the role of epigenetics in the response of breast cancer to hormonal and chemotherapies. Dr. Wafaa won the L’Oréal UNESCO for Women in Science Middle East Award in 2019 and she undertook an 8-month fellowship in the Laboratory of Radiobiology & Experimental Radiation Oncology in University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. Dr. Wafaa’s research mainly focused on epigenetic implication in cancer biology and in the resistance to anti-cancer therapy. She has published more than 10 articles in international peer reviewed journals, and has delivered many oral and poster presentations in different international and local conferences.
