King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) is considered one of the most distinguished organizations in the medical, research, and education fields in both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region. With its 2,423 beds and specialized outpatient clinics with more than 1.5 million visits per year, KFSH&RC has committed to provide the highest level of service to all patients in need across its three branches in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Madinah. Specialized tertiary care is offered in medical subspecialties such as, but not limited to, oncology, organ transplantation, genetics, and neurosciences.

KFSH&RC’s Oncology Centre is one of the leading oncology centers, providing a number of integrated services for different cancer types. Highly recognized for its scientific focus and accredited educational expertise, the Centre offers advanced biological therapies, replacing some traditional chemotherapy in certain cases, and provides preventive programs of cancers.

In 2020, the Center for Genomic Medicine was established to provide a core service needed in the country, as well as support research activities. Since the initiation of the program, a total of 3,311 therapeutic cycles were conducted for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and pre-implantation diagnosis (PGD). PGD diagnoses include genetic mutations such as thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and genetic metabolic diseases. The Clinical Research Department was also established in the last year, with the aim to take clinical trials to the next level with more participation in the international setting. Within a year, the program has completed 50 trials with more than 405 patients involved.

This year, KFSH&RC’s Stem Cell therapy has acquired a competitive edge nationally and internationally as it allowed patient access to the specialized therapeutic modality of CAR-T Cell therapy. To date, 13 adult and pediatric patients who would have otherwise traveled abroad for the treatment, have successfully received the therapy.

KFSH&RC has had a long, successful history in the field of transplantation, which started more than 40 years ago. Throughout the years, a total of 17,451 transplants have been performed. KFSH&RC’s liver transplantation living donor program is considered one of the largest programs worldwide; the Pediatric Transplant Program, on the other hand, is renowned for being one of the best in the world. Apart from having the only Lung Transplant Program in the Kingdom, the Organization likewise houses a Bone Bank, which solely provides for all hospitals in the Kingdom.

For several years, KFSH&RC has offered robotic surgical interventional technology with 424 robotic surgeries performed this year. The Organization also continues to be the only international center that performs robotic surgery for all living donors, effecting positive outcomes on the donor’s quality of life, duration of stay, complications compared to traditional surgery, and overall aesthetics.

An advocate of education and training, KFSH&RC offers 63 fellowship programs and 96 sub-specialty programs, from which 249 physicians have graduated during this year.
