Lifetime Achievement-Regional Track
Prof. Mahmoud Aljurf is the Director of Adult Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy Program and Deputy Director of the Oncology Centre at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received his MBBS degree from the University of Jordan in 1985, completed his internship at King Khaled University Hospital and subsequently, completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and combined Hematology & Oncology Fellowships at Stanford University Medical Center. He also received his Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and FRCPath degree from the United Kingdom.
Prof. Aljurf is American Board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Hematology, Medical Management (CPE) and Quality Assurance (ABQURP). He has published over 300 scientific papers in key international journals, several book chapters and serves as the Lead Editor for 4 books published by Elsevier and Springer/Nature: the EBMT/ESH book on “Congenital and Acquired Bone Marrow Failure”, “Establishing a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Unit: A Practical Guide”, “Quality Management and Accreditation in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy: The JACIE Guide” and “The Comprehensive Cancer Center Development, Integration, and Implementation”.
Prof. Aljurf is the lead contributor for the establishment of the Eastern Mediterranean Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EMBMT) Group organization in 2008. He is the Editor-in-Chief for the Elsevier journal “Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Therapy” and an editorial board member in several high rank international hematology/oncology journals.
He was the recipient of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Mastership Award for the year 2012 and the recipient of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) Distinguished Service Award for the year 2018.
Currently, he is the Vice-President of the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) and Global Committee Member of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT).
